August 6, 2022The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy (MHLC), the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), and local project partners have come together again to offer free Saturday CDTA bus service to connect City of Albany residents to eight natural spaces in and around Albany. The service will start Saturday, May 28 and run through Saturday, September 24. Read more here.
The schedule for Five Rivers is the following Saturdays:
- May 28
- June 11 & 25 *** Note that June 11 is “NY Outdoors Day” with activities taking place at Five Rivers from 10 am to 2 pm
- July 9 & 23
- August 6 & 20
- September 3 & 17 *** Note that September 17 is the “Fall Festival” with activities taking place at Five Rivers from 10 am to 4 pm

August 11, 2022Join the Early Morning Bird Walk, led by DEC's Drew Hopkins, at 7:30 am (meet at the Visitor's Center). No registration required. A limited number of binoculars are available (no fee) to the public.

August 15, 2022“Connect to Nature with Sketchbooks & Journaling” with Carol Coogan
CLASS DESCRIPTION
At every moment, wherever you are, you can use a simple sketchbook to connect more deeply with the natural world. In its pages you might write notes, record observations and descriptions of what you notice, hear, smell, and see, and fill its pages with simple diagrams, scribbles, quick sketches, or fully developed drawings. When curious, jot down the question. You can research later to learn more about it. Join Carol Coogan as she gives instruction, support, advice, and inspiration to your own nature sketching practice.Up to 15 participants will be treated to a naturalist describing the area you will be sketching with instruction from Carol Coogan.
- $20 per person for Friends members
- $25 per person for non-members
- $12 for supplies (or bring your own)

Capture the beauty of Five Rivers in a sketch! You will be guided on a five minute walk to one of the Fiver River’s beautiful ponds. There you will be provided instructions by Noreen Powell on sketching landscapes. After this two hour session, you will be able to take home your sketch as well as a procedure for your next art adventure.Up to 15 participants will be treated to a naturalist describing the area you will be painting with instruction from Noreen Powell.
- $20 per person for Friends members

WHY: To Celebrate Five Rivers and support the Friends of Five Rivers, a not-for-profit that funds educational programs at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center.

- Registration Required.
- One-hour walks begins at 10:00 am and again at 2:00 pm (meet in front of GSP Building 10 minutes prior to your registered time).
- Two groups of 15 people max in each group, led by Friends Educators, Nancy Conway and Nancy Payne.
- Sturdy shoes advised.

October 5, 2022Nearly every walk here at Five Rivers passes by one of the fourteen beautiful ponds located on the property. Have you ever wondered about the history of these ponds and whether they are healthy or not?
Join a community of adult learners as we discover the answers! Each week, as we walk out to a specific pond, we will discuss its construction, purpose, and age. Then we will investigate its health by sampling the aquatic life and testing the water quality. Participants are asked to dress for the weather, wear sturdy walking shoes that can get muddy, and bring water. Please meet at Five Rivers’ Guided School Program Building located by the gardens.
Time and Dates:
1:30 -3:30 pm on Wednesdays (10/5, 10/12, 10/19). Rain Date: 10/26.Maximum Participants:
8 Adults -
