SUPPORT OUR OUTDOOR CLASSROOM

“Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I will understand.”  This phrase with photo hangs in the Friends of Five Rivers classroom, serving as a reminder of our mission revolving around environmental education.  This is achieved through our outdoor classroom, also known as our Guided School Program (GSP), offering scientific-based lessons meeting New York State learning standards.

One of our newest GSP volunteer instructors, Carolyn Wisnewski, shares her impression of the Friends of Five Rivers outdoor classroom program. “I was extremely impressed with the robust lesson plans. The lessons are detailed, yet not overwhelming, and offer the perfect mix of instruction and hands-on learning,” she said, adding, “I have seen how these classes open the children’s eyes to a world of scientific investigation and discovery!”

The well-trained instructors bring the curriculum to life.  “I’ve seen that magic happen at the hands of the talented and dedicated volunteer guides at Five Rivers! These instructors consistently deliver programs that spark interest, excitement, and possibilities,” Carolyn explained.
