2025 Recipients

Skylar Maurer

My name is Skylar Maurer and I just graduated from bethlehem central highschool. Over my high school career I have dedicated myself to volunteering. One of my most valued experiences was at Thatcher park where I worked with the amazing former volunteer coordinator Ian Evens. Our work focuses on cleaning trails and removing invasive specs and helping the nature center host events for the public. I continue to volunteer there and I think it has been one for my most valued experience in high school. This fall I will be attending ESF for environmental biology and I could not be more excited for the school and for the major I have chosen. Studying nature is my greatest passion and I am ecstatic that soon it will become my career.

Tasmia Ishma

Tasmia Ishma, a graduate of Guilderland High School, is headed to Northeastern University’s Boston campus. She will be majoring in Business Administration and Law with a concentration in Environmental Studies. Throughout high school, Tasmia served as President of the Environmental Club, where she led school-wide initiatives on sustainability, climate justice, and environmental awareness. She organized fundraisers to support communities impacted by Hurricanes Milton and Helene, combining advocacy and action to respond to environmental crises. Tasmia’s passion lies in using policy, business, and education to fight for a more sustainable and equitable world. She looks forward to continuing this work at Northeastern, where she hopes to explore the intersection of environmental law, community organizing, and social justice.
