Are you curious about honey bees? Would you like to experience the awe of opening a bee hive? If so, Honey Bees 101 is for you! Collaborate with your peers and Friends of Five Rivers’ beekeeper Nancy Conway during a week of hands-on experiences designed to explore the following topics:
Honey bee anatomy, metamorphosis, and castes; Colony life, hive history, wax and frame preparation; Flower evolution, honey creation, and taste testing; Signs of disease and pests, future of honey bees; Beekeeping equipment and hive inspections.
Time and Date: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. July 20 to 24, 2020
Participants: Students entering Grades 6 to 12 in September
Material Fee: $25 per participant
Program Fee: Friends Members = $50 Non-Members = $100
