Honey Bees 101
For Middle and High School Students
Are you curious about honey bees? Would you like to experience the awe of opening a bee hive? If so, Honey Bees 101 is for you! Collaborate with your peers and Friends of Five Rivers’ beekeeper Nancy Conway during a week of hands-on experiences designed to explore the following topics:
- Honey bee anatomy, metamorphosis, and castes;
- Colony life, hive history, wax and frame preparation;
- Flower evolution, honey creation, and taste testing;
- Signs of disease and pests, future of honey bees;
- Beekeeping equipment and hive inspections.
