Honey Bees 101

For Middle and High School Students


Are you curious about honey bees? Would you like to experience the awe of opening a bee hive? If so, Honey Bees 101 is for you! Collaborate with your peers and Friends of Five Rivers’ beekeeper Nancy Conway during a week of hands-on experiences designed to explore the following topics:

  • Honey bee anatomy, metamorphosis, and castes;
  • Colony life, hive history, wax and frame preparation;
  • Flower evolution, honey creation, and taste testing;
  • Signs of disease and pests, future of honey bees;
  • Beekeeping equipment and hive inspections.
