Talk and Trek

Become a part of a community of learners interested in exploring nature and sharing knowledge! Each week we will walk and talk about selected flora, fauna and historical/geological features at Five Rivers, using reference guides and a variety of items including skulls and pelts.t&t

Who? Adult individuals Maximum Number of Participants: 8 Adults

When? 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. for five consecutive Mondays. Begins October 19, 2020.

Where? In person at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center

Fee? $35 for Friends Members / $50 for Non-Members

For Children

Guided School Program

t&tActively engage your entire class in the discovery process through hands-on experiences and minds-on investigation at Five Rivers. Our classrooms are the field, pond and stream habitats brimming with life! Choose from five age appropriate lessons including Exploring the Outdoors, Animal Signs, Insects, Stream Life and World of Pond and delve into concepts such as adaptations, life cycles, food chains and seasonal changes.

Who? Schools. Maximum Participants / Day: 40 students with 8 school chaperones. Participants will be divided into groups of 10 students with 2 school chaperones

When? Lessons offered on Thursday and Friday mornings. Begins September 17th. Lesson time selected by teacher. Lesson duration 2 hours

Where? In person at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center

Fee? $50 / group of 10 students with 2 school chaperones

Pond Study by Young Scientists

Calling all motivated young scientists who want to be outside building their knowledge of the scientific research processes! Join a team of likeminded peers led by Friends Naturalists and research the health of a pond. Learn to use equipment including aquascopes, secchi disks, dichotomous keys and more!pond

Who? Individuals entering Grades 6 to 12. Team Size: 6 students and 2 Friends Naturalists

When? 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays for eight weeks. Begins September 24th.

Where? In person at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center

Fee? $125 for Friends Members / $150 for Non-Members - Material fees included

For Families

Family Fun Program - THIS PROGRAM IS FULL.

Families with young children will accompany Naturalists on interactive, themed discovery walks around Five Rivers. Activity pages will be sent home each week to create an expanding Journal.ff

Who? Pre-school children and Parents or Adult Caregivers. Older siblings welcome! Maximum Group Size: 2 families / Friends Naturalist

When? *Sorry, THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN FILLED. Additional sessions will run October through December.

Family Fieldtrips

Enhance your family’s scientific learning this fall by scheduling a Family Fieldtrip to Five Rivers! Meet a Naturalist and become a limnologist studying a stream or an entomologist studying insects or even a naturalist studying the field and forest habitats.field
